L-Lysine, Esther-C, Low Acid Orange Juice, have brought my outbreaks down to about 2 a year, if that.

Along with all the other causes I stopped taking aspirin and use acetaminophen instead. Also, for some reason eating almonds seemed to prime me for an outbreak. On several occasions when run-down and I feel an outbreak coming on ... fatigue with a fever accompanied by the tingle/itch on the lip ... I take two acetaminophen, and the supplements, then massage in a liberal amount of Campho-Phenique where the tingle-itch indicates where the outbreak will likely happen. Essential to this is then wrapping myself up in a blanket and taking a 3 hour nap. More often then not, doing this has defeated the outbreak. It has also allowed me to keep a date that I had been looking forward to.

I dont have the pills, but I do have the lip clear tube, and I love this stuff. I get a cold sore about every 3 – 4 months, and it only takes about 3-4 days to get rid of the cold sore. My lip is always moist, never cracks and bleeds. Much much better than the more expensive treatments.
